Web Site Development
Utah Council for Crime Prevention
In the fall of 2002 it was recognized that the existing
web site and internet presence of UCCP did not reflect the status or
stature of the organization. The existing site at
www.utcrimeprevention.org needed significant changes. It was
felt that it was mandatory for UCCP to enhance its web site and
capabilities in order to improve the services we provide to our target
audience, customers and potential clients.

Effective
Deployment: Giving the Mobile Solution Every Chance of Success
Kent J. Barnes |
| Developing and/or
selecting the mobile application is only part of the equation. A
critical success factor in mobile and wireless implementations is
deployment and post-implementation support. Effective deployment support
ensures that the adoption and ongoing support of the “new technology” is
as seamless as possible and there is more excitement that frustration
associated with the rollout. Join this speaker as he provides examples
and lessons learned from successful deployments of mobile and wireless
technology solutions.
What you will learn
Providing the best “out of
the box” experience for users
Hardware acquisition and
configuration
User training
“Help Desk” issues
Should this be an in-house
effort, or should this be outsourced?

TECHXNY and PC EXPO
Industry Forum to “Clear The Air” on Wireless LAN
Industry Forum to “Clear The Air” on Wireless LAN Standards at TECHXNY
this Week
Industry experts will gather to discuss the current status of wireless
LAN technologies, such as the well-known IEEE 802.11, and their continuing
evolution in a panel discussion at TECHXNY, and the 19th Annual PC EXPO Show
and Conference being held in New York City this week.
The panel, entitled Wireless LANs & Notebook PCs: Staying Connected
around the Enterprise, will take place on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. Kent Barnes
PMP, director of Mobile & Wireless business unit, will moderate the
panel that includes industry experts from Intel, Agere Systems, Atheros
Communications, Mobilian and Symbol Technologies.
The industry experts will discuss the potential for wireless technology
within the enterprise and specifically examine which wireless standards are
most suitable, and their impact on IT investment strategies.
“With all the ‘buzz’ about the potential for wireless networking
solutions, there is a great deal of confusion that exists about the various
wireless networking standards such as 802.11b, WI-FI, 2.5G, 3G and
Bluetooth,” said Barnes. “We hope to provide a simple and clear viewpoint of
how these technologies differ and why is it important that we have these
technologies.”
The discussion will focus on opportunities for using wireless LAN
technology to simplify network access within the enterprise, deal with
security issues, review trends in the end-user market, and learn how
manufacturers are responding to the market for computers and peripherals
with RF capability. The outlook for emerging standards, such as the
evolution of the IEEE 802.11 standard, will also be discussed. TECHXNY and
the 19th Annual PC EXPO Show and Conference are held at the Jacob K. Javits
Convention Center, New York, NY, June 26-28, 2001
